Hey everyone!
As a mom and massage therapist, I know firsthand how important it is to care for our skin, especially during the dry winter months. It can take time to get into a new winter routine, leaving you feeling like your skin is out of control. You'd rather roll up in a cozy blanket than deal with it. Our skin can be the main source of our confidence, and it's important to maintain this vessel that carries us through life. Here are my top 5 tips for keeping your skin hydrated and healthy:
1) Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Lock that moisture in!!! Apply a rich, oil-based moisturizer to your face and body immediately after showering to lock in hydration. Stay away from products containing alcohol as a stabilizer, as this causes more dry skin!
2) Drink plenty of filtered chorine free water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
3) Avoid long, hot showers, over cleansing, and opt for lukewarm water instead. and over cleansing. Hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils. Switch up natural soaps for the winter, as powerful soaps can also cause over cleansing, leading to dry skin.
4) Use a humidifier in your home to add moisture to the air, which can help prevent dry skin.
5) Exfoliate at least once a week to remove dead skin cells and help your moisturizer work better. If you have cracked skin, do not use soap or cleanser when exfoliating. Start by steaming a towel to prep the skin, and gently massaging the towel in small circles to take off unwanted skin. Remember, full body exfoliation prevents skin tags and unwanted dark areas.
BONUS: Take it one step further. We need strong, balanced nutrition to support cellular growth, so we can have beautiful, healthy skin. Food influences the way our skin heals, so cutting out processed food that contains trans fats, sugar and genetically modified ingredients harmful for us can leave significant changes in our mood, body functions and wellbeing.
Practice makes perfect, and a new routine takes time. Find your present moment within these steps, and you'll be on your way to happy, healthy skin all winter long!
